Our History

The Pinon Café is the first and oldest restaurant in Payson.  Originally built by the Sherlocks and opened in 1951.  It eventually became the Knotty Pine for decades.  It has been the Pinon Café for approximately 8 years.  Always owned and operated by local families, it is a true Payson icon.

We serve downhome comfort food, prepared by well-seasoned cooks, the Pinon Café is a staple in Payson, AZ.  Along with the clean fresh air, beautiful rim country, and amazing community, the Pinon is a hidden gem in central Arizona.

Two years ago, the Conway Clan, purchased this little café with the aspiration to upgrade her into the 21st Century, but to keep the nostalgia and integrity of this special place.  With a long history of community service and a true family atmosphere, we welcome you to “come on down” to experience the friendliest and the best home-cooked food around.
